After much negotiation, the contract for the 2012 partnership with MillerCoors is signed! Unlike last year, in which relatively small amounts of money were divided across every NGFFL member city, this year, MillerCoors chose to concentrate the resources in select markets and around select events to maximize its exposure.
Importantly, MillerCoors has upped their investment in our community from $25k to $30k, a 20% increase over last year!
Thus, the $30K will be divided across the three largest national tournaments – Gay Bowl, Pride Bowl in Chicago, and Florida Sunshine Cup. The remainder is going to the leagues in Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco Bay. And a small amount is set aside to support the formation of a league in Dallas / Fort Worth, another market specifically chosen by MillerCoors. The NGFFL is facilitating the investment of those DFW-specific dollars.
The NGFFL Board hopes this experience sets the stage for uncovering more partnerships that can be shared with more local leagues and events. The NGFFL thanks MillerCoors for its partnership and commitment to our community!

In the spirit of transparency, the NGFFL board shares the minutes of its monthly telephonic board meetings. Here are the minutes from the March meeting. Lots of time was devoted to the bids to host Gay Bowl 2012. But that’s not all. The board also reviewed progress on the forthcoming local league-development toolkit, the league’s all-new corporate partnership strategy that is receiving finishing touches, and the 5-year vision the board is attempting to craft for entire-league input and approval.
In attendance: David Donohue (Ft. Lauderdale), Jared Garduno (Phoenix), Molly Lenore (New York), Shane Kinkennon (Denver), Thurman Williams (Atlanta), Cyd Zeigler (Los Angeles)

The NGFFL board is fundamentally rethinking how the organization approaches sponsorship arrangements with national corporations. We’re evolving from a mindset of short-term transactions to one of long-term partnerships. A key part of that rethinking is opening doors for member cities to access those sponsorship dollars for their teams, leagues and events.
To that end, the NGFFL’s director of partnerships Cyd Zeigler is hosting a conference call next Wednesday evening, January 19, with the national league’s designated local contacts nationwide. You can find a draft of the new plan here. He will discuss the new strategy, gather input, and gauge interest in participating. It’ll be an important conversation, and we encourage all local league commissioners and / or sponsorship directors to participate. Read the rest of this entry →
