NGFFL Board Minutes July 2012 0

We’re catching up! So happy reading!…
This Wednesday, I’m proud to hand over the reins of the NGFFL to a great new Board led by a great new commissioner, my friend Jared Garduno.
While the Board didn’t achieve everything I had hoped during the last two years, and my conscientious side has occasionally given me grief about that, the list of what we did achieve is pretty nice. We established basic financial processes and controls, rewrote outdated bylaws, firmed up conflict of interest policies, developed social media policies, and applied for 501c3 status. (We’re STILL awaiting an answer from the IRS, btw.)
Following a vote of city leaders, Joe Cooper of Denver and Wayne Knaub of Philadelphia have been elected to serve two-year terms on the Board of the National Gay Flag Football League! Joe and Wayne assume the spots vacated by out-going board members Shane Kinkennon of Denver and Thurman Williams of DC.
Joe and Wayne were both founding partners of their respective city leagues, and both intend to spread our sport to more people in more places across North America.
At September’s City Leaders’ meeting in Denver, Jared Garduno of Phoenix was unanimously chosen to serve as the NGFFL’s third commissioner, following the footsteps of league co-founder Jim Buzinski of Los Angeles and Shane. Joining Jared, Joe, and Wayne for service in 2013 are Phil Clawson of Boston, Sam Lehman of New York, and Chris Cormier and Patrick McIntyre, both of DC. The new board will officially convene this month.
BIG THANKS are due to Shane and Thurman for their stellar service. And congratulations to Jared for his new responsibilities and Joe and Wayne on their new roles!
Are you pondering greater service to the national gay flag-football community? Are you interested in helping drive the NGFFL vision of being the greatest place for LGBT people to experience all the wonderful things that come from participation in team sports? If it’s not YOUR time specifically, do you know someone in your local league or program who is the perfect, self-started, levelheaded doer? A natural for the NGFFL Board?
The NGFFL is seeking energetic, conscientious, fair-minded, leaders who love gay flag football, believe in the NGFFL’s mission and vision, have some real time to give, and are willing to give it. If you know just such a person, please recruit, recruit, recruit.
Here’s the schedule and process for the Election. Join us.
This month’s Two-Minute Drill provides all you need to know about Gay Bowl XII this week in Denver, Colorado. Please take a look and familiarize yourselves with everything that’s planned and expected. The Denver Gay Bowl Committee has created what promises to be a very memorable experience for all of us! So before you take off, make sure you know everything you need to know!
And one last thing – don’t forget your flags and footballs!!
